Newcastle University

2016 – 2017

In November 2016 I visited Ottawa and the University of Ottawa to carry out new research into understanding the effects of the terrorist incident at the parliament building in October 2014. This research is part of a wider investigation of acts of terrorism as ‘performatives’ which explore the after effects of these events on people’s lives and how these might differ from country to country.

He led a workshop for the University of Ottawa Masters and PhD students around his research, and carried out a series of ethnographic interviews with particular support from the mayor’s office.

This trip and will allowed him to have an opportunity to gain peer reviewed feedback from colleagues in both North America and beyond.

I will be writing an article for Canadian Theatre Review. In addition to attending the April conference on migration at the University of Ottawa, I will also present the findings at the London Conference in Critical Thought (July 2017) and in a paper at the IFTR conference in São Paulo in July 2017.
