Nick Rutter

With the help of the Canada-UK Foundation, Nick travelled to the Canadian Arctic to collect data on snow and sea ice.

Monitoring how the properties of snow located on top of sea ice changes has important implications for levels of uncertainty when measuring the thickness of sea ice from satellites and aircraft.

Nick’s work on the statistical variability of snow over sea ice will help evaluate the datasets used by Environment Canada for climate and weather prediction. These datasets are also employed in projects sponsored by the Canadian Space Agency.
