These studentships are available for well-qualified applicants to conduct doctoral research containing a substantial Canadian element at a UK university. Valued at £2,000 per annum for full-time students, or pro-rata per semester or per term for part-time students, they are intended to assist students in payment of home tuition fees. These grants may be renewed up to a maximum period of three years full-time or equivalent period part-time. For each year of receipt of an award, host institutions must provide ‘matching funding’ at a level which at least makes up the balance of the full-time home student tuition fees for the year (or a pro rata portion for a shorter period in the case of a part-time student). Any PhD degree-granting institution in the UK may apply for a studentship, provided appropriate Canadianist supervision and appropriate Canadianist resources are available to support the student’s research. Though the Foundation studentships are geared in relation to home tuition fees only, they are available to all applicants, UK, EU or international.
